Default SAguitar's search for the Perfect Tone 'n stuff

    8) OK, this is a lake I oughta jump into, too. Y'all can write anything ya want without fear of reprisal, or not much anyway.

This week, I've been trying to get one of my Les Paul's into the action. Tried Ashley (Tele) but her strings were just sour and I didn't feel like changing them. Took a Paul and a Strat to rehearsal, and Mr. Bandleader says, "In this one section, I would like to change the feel to more of an acoustic, lighter sound." We don't have an acoustic player this weekend. Of course, I have an acoustic patch in my floorboard, but while a Strat through that patch can sound sorta like an acoustic (sorta), a Paul sounds like a Paul, with a little eq applied. So, once again the Strat wins the toss, and will probably be the guitar-of-choice for the weekend. 8)

OK, Mr. Bandleader backed off on the lighter, acoustic sounding thing and we went back to the Rock sound. So there I was free to grab the Paul and go for full-throated double humbucker Tonology. I did, but then in the middle of one song, I put 'er down, and grabbed my Carvin Strat-thing. That thing's tone just sings. And I stuck with it for the rest of the gig. Go figger...

You have found the tone my son, now go forth and spread the good news of the gospel of Kinman.

Maybe try some Kinmans in your Paul.

 Kinmans in a Paul! Brilliant, my son, you're onto something here. 8)

Yes, thank you. I've been told that. I think I now have an excellent candidate for the P90 solution, too. It's a 1980 Gibson "The Paul" solid walnut axe. It's begging for P90's, and who am I to say No? 8)

Monday night... Tonight was not a good guitar night. I finally got to sit down with my guitar after a long day of staining the deck. I pick out one of my favorites to just sit down and play a few slow melodies and mellow out a little. Yuck, the strings are so sour that I can't get into it. Put that one back and choose another. Same sour tones, and I'm not in the mood to change strings. Then a dog from down the street escapes from her back yard, and turns up in our front yard. Nice guy that I am, I go out and escort her back home. Then the phone rings, twice. Then the wife needs some help for "just a few minutes." Fugitabowwdit... I put the guitar away and give up. Maybe tomorrow night.

LOL...i guess when 2 people have been best friends for over 30 years-and most of those years been playing guitar together, you tend to gain the same outlooks on certain things...i do know that thanks to terry i've improved my playing as well as my tone (not to mention my gear as well) --and its hard to beat the tone of a good P90 guitar thru a quality amp--terry has said that to me for years before it finally sank in-LOL --every tonemeister owes it to themselves to have a P90 in their arsenal.
that "PAUL" sounds like a good place for some P90 pups SA.
the owwdacaster that terry gave me for my last birthday has some pups he put in from SKguitars that have a P90 bite/sweetness to them--

i've got an old LP Studio i'm about to swap out the stock hummers with the SKguitars Dualtone II pups--should be interesting.
