I thought this would be a good idea since we're a Fender forum and stuff...

Actually, I'm really looking forward to finding out quirky and interesting things about Leo Fender and Fender guitars!

    Good idea CM.

Let me start by saying I have read a couple of books on the subject, but I can't recall the incywincy details. One book was written by his accountant which was very interesting in a financial way and the other one was a Fender Guitar type coffee table book with pictures.

Leo never played guitar. That is one of the most interesting things about the man.

You would think it was a given, it's like inventing a new piano but never being able to play it.

The name "Stratocaster" is brilliant imho, following on after *Broadcaster* and !Telecaster!, not to mention ^Nocaster^.
Can anyone remind me who it was who came up with these names?

Enough of my rambling, so over to ........ probably owwdatune

Don Randall is credited with coming up with Telecaster, Stratocaster and most other of the early names for Fender guitars. They were likely inspired by the popularity of broadcasting. Leo himself named the Precision Bass

Was'nt he the first one to put frets on a bass? Thus creating the "precision"?

Great question. I don't know the answer about putting frets on a bass. Leo was certainly interested in musicians input and tried to seek out input from local players to incorporate into his designs. Anyone?
