Question Control Panel Flip Mod Questions

I'm going to be doing my first and hopefully only mod to my American Special Telecaster (Butterscotch Blonde, same as in video below). It's the common flip of the knobs and switch for volume swells. I want the best parts for my tele panel and I'm not really sure how the factory parts stack up. I am thinking about adding an Orange Drop capacitor as well as replacing the harness pretty much... pots, switch, jack and even use some nice vintage wire I purchased. will be adding copper tape shielding as well.

My question is, which parts are going to give be the best tone? I am not familiar with different pots, capacitors, switches, etc... I just want the best/quiet tone I can get. Any tips or info would be appreciated!

As it's an American instrument, it will already be pretty well sorted for quality components (Oak Grigsby switch and CTS pots etc.).

I'd just switch the plate around and rewire as necessary with the vintage wire you have to make sure the original components fit in their new positions.

Our good Captain has it right, as usual. You should have fine parts in that little tunnel, no real need to upgrade them. If you want to swap out a capacitor that's up to you, but I am confident that probably only Eric Johnson could hear the difference. I've done that many times with no noticeable improvement but I do like the way they look when I open up the compartment. Along with turning the control plate around my favorite Tele trick is to put in a 4-way switch so you can use both pickups in series and parallel configuration. I also have a TBX control on a couple of Telecasters just because I like those things.

Have fun with that crazy plank!

I second Stan's suggestion of a 4-way switch. Well worth doing.
