    Default Which year is this?

    Hi All,
new here and have a question.
I bought a US-JB in the mid 1990ies in a store Austria. These days I wanted to find out which year it was actually built and tried to decode the serial number (E 95292). This number did not exist. I sent an email to fender and got the following answer:
"That serial number doesn't look right for us here. It should be a E+6 digit serial number. This was most likely a bass built strictly for our overseas market, by an overseas factory, which we would keep no record of. Sorry for any inconvenience."

Background: I bought it since I had no knowledge about basses at that time. But soon I found out that the instrument was not well made. The neck was slightly dislocated at the body connection and sound was not too exciting. I fixed the neck myself and replaced the pickups by Bartolinis which improved the sound. Recently I again replaced the PUs by custom shop PUs and now it sounds good.

Still a mystery to me. Made in USA but not in USA? Total fake? Maybe someone here can help me with that.

    Thanks,
    Rocketeer

It's not American-built and it's not Japan-built. As they indicated, it might well be a Fender but cannot be documented. My guess is that it was built somewhere in Asia where they were not keeping adequate records.

Thank you. Somehow funny that even the manufacturer cannot tell.

Well, technically, FMIC is not the manufacturer. For all we know, the manufacturer is a sweat shop paying women and children a handful of peanuts to slave for 12 hours a day.

Well, if this is the case, I wonder if it is legal to print the Brand and “Made in USA” on it.
