New bridge posts installed. The new tailpiece bushings are about 1/8" narrower than the bushing holes, so I will have to fill them with dowel and re-drill.

Ah, I found a MUCH better option! These bushings will fit perfectly and will be far superior to the zinc ones I currently have!

I started work on a new nut and when I measured the height of the first fret it was obvious that this guitar also needed new frets.

    Doc,

Those studs for the bridge - do they go right to the bottom of the tapped holes?

I remember reading about guys that have replaced the short stock studs for longer ones as it gave them more sustain (apparently).

    Just a thought.

I will put them as deep as possible. It also turns out the frets are beyond salvage, so I will be re-fretting this beast as well...

Sounds like a complete rebuild! Man, that kind of repair is above my pay grade. I just got a Telecaster to work on from a friend and I'm fretting because it has a few high frets, I have to plug and redrill the neck, and put on a new nut.

Go for it, my good man.
