Pulling and replacing the frets on a 51-year-old 345 is not necessarily "fun", especially if I chip that old rosewood. There is going to be some sphincter tone in the next few weeks.

I hear ya doc, it is definitely not for the faint-of-heart, but you've got the cojones for it. And there's always all those Dan Erlewine videos to peruse. May the Schwartz be with you!

And like Peter Sellers once said, "I like to watch."

Those tailpiece bushings did NOT want to come out!! Since this will have gold hardware I decided to splurge on EVO gold fretwire as well.

I got some of the paint off and somebody replaced an 10-inch section of binding with what looks like walnut. I'll probably paint it ivory to match the rest of the binding. There's also a crack repair in the same part of the side which should be fairly subtle under a cherry satin but I'll see what I can do to make it less apparent.

I might go to Mike’s and do live eyewitness reports from the front lawn. Would that be weird?

Judging from the number of folks who walk their dogs up and down this street, Wes would have to be nimble or he'd get pissed or dumped on. frets are out without severe casualty, but somebody played the hell out of this thing. And there is SO MUCH DAMNED PAINT!!

Unpleasant surprise here - why in hell wouldn't they use maple??? I may try to mask and prime the dark wood and experiment with stains to try to match the adjacent maple, maybe paint in some subtle matching grain and continue with the clear cherry red stain agenda.
