Okay guys, maybe you can help me out.

I bought the genuine fender Tele deluxe replacement neck. Took some time for the neck to come from the states, since fender doesn't sell those down here.

I received the neck and it looks great. The gloss finish, the frets, everything looks as expected except... the nut.

Fender delivers the replacement neck with a plastic pre slotted nut, but the slot placement looks bad. The pre slotting is down verrry lightly but still, the placement sucks. Can I vile deeper usable slots next to a lightly slotted part?

Maybe I want to replace the nut with a bone one. Any suggestions? Or other tips about the current slot?

Is the current nut bone or plastic? If it's plastic I would just replace it. If it's not and you want to mess with it you might be able to file the "pre-slotting" down and start over. (if there's enough material) But it might just be easier to start with a blank....

You can buy a pre-slotted bone nut from Stewart-MacDonald. You will probably have to sand some off the headstock side to get it to fit in the slot. And you will need to file the slots to the correct depth. This is how I do it:

There ya go. I have had great results with parts from StewMac, and hopefully they will ship internationally. A bone nut is worth it.

Actually, I appreciate that you wanted to be as authentic as possible, and in that regard I believe Fender has let you down. Unless the originals also had ****ty plastic nuts with poorly-spaced slots.

Yeah I can't really find the right info on that. But I'll definitely give it a go and try to find a better nut. I've adjusted and installed nut before, I only didn't remove one before. So that's the thing that I have to be careful and precise with. Gotta learn by doing! Nut hunting season has opened!
