There are so many choices now it is unbelievable.

And you live in the U.S of A, the mecca of electric guitars

If you can afford Fender on the headstock, then job done
    otherwise it is a lottery

Well I got a bit of a surprise the other day. My girlfriend went out and bought me a squire strat amp cord pics so I can at least start playing now. Got some tabs I'm going to start working on and just work my way up from there

I have a Squier CV 60's stratocaster that plays better than any MIM Standard I have played including the one I own. The higher end Squiers are right there with MIM's and some cases pass them so DO NOT count Squier's out unless you buy your guitars for the logo and not for play-ability.

I'm glad you're lovin' it, Bill! Yeah, I have heard that testimony many times in the last few years.
Some contend that rock 'n roll is bad for the body & bad for the soul
Bad for the heart, bad for the mind, bad for the deaf & bad for the blind.
It makes some men crazy and they talk like fools.
Makes some men crazy and they start to drool.

I think most agree that the Squire's are the best. Glad you have a good one. Welcome aboard.
I'm not sayin' that, I'm just sayin'......
