Default Which Tele for a beginner

Haven't played for a long time. Used to play back in high school 20 years ago bit haven't since then. I tried to get back to playing about 2 years ago and after a divorce I had to sell the guitars I had then.
I have been wanting to get back into playing again and have always wanted a Tele. But with all the different pickup options and so on what would be a good one too choose. Mainly I am looking to play country and blues genres

    What's your budget?

    Guitar only or amp too?

    Both amp and guitar
Would like a decent one. Don't need a custom shop tele just something that sounds good.
Little unsure on budget as far as dollar wise would like it to be as cheap as possible and I know I could buy used but really unsure what to look for going that route

Get on Craig's List and look for Fender Squire or Affinity these are entry level guitars. You get get a good guitar at a really good price. If you are going to buy used take it to the shop and have it set up and checked out. The better it plays the more likely you are to stick with it.

I have seen many people jump into playing and spend big bucks only to find out they don't have the time or real desire to play. The guitar gathers dust or is sold off at a fraction of the price they paid. If you get a budget guitar and you enjoy playing again you can shop for a better instrument. I bought an Affinity Tele and it plays great. I gave it to my nephew when he wanted to learn and he won't put it down three years later.

    Good luck !

What are the differences in the MIA tele and the MIM tele? Is it mainly finish and pickups

Actually, the difference is mainly a few hundred dollars! As many have said, the MIM Fenders are made in Mexico by Mexicans, and the MIA Fenders are made in America by Mexicans. Most of the same ingredients, possibly some better pickups, but predominantly the same stuff. You might get s better build with an MIA, but there are many very good Mexican Fender guitars too. Do you have a friend that you could trust to help you pick one out?

I think MIM Standard guitars are superb quality for the price. That'd be my choice if I were starting out.

I totally agree. I have been playing for decades, and have a MIM Telecaster and a Stratocaster that are very worthy instruments.

These things normally come down to budget, not quality. Decide on a budget, pick a guitar at that price and start playing.
I'm not sayin' that, I'm just sayin'......
