Yup, Stan, I used to have a couple of his solo records (though not Sunken Condos). My sense was that as they got further from their classic period (to me, anything after Gaucho), it didn't feel quite the same. They almost seemed to be parodying themselves. Then again, it is well nigh impossible to keep producing music at that level indefinitely.

That said, Larry's solo on The Nightfly's title track is right up there with his others. There's a great story he tells about the Nightfly sessions where he showed up in NYC without his tweed Deluxe (the one used on Kid Charlemagne), and Fagen made Larry ship it from LA.

One of my greatest memories is driving in San Francisco in '82 or '83 listening to KBLX from Berkeley, taking the curve right before the Cliff House as the road heads down towards the beach as the intro to IGY came up. I was blown away that someone could sound so uncannily like Steely Dan, then heard Fagen's voice and went aha!!! the new Steely Dan album!!! Well...not quite but close enough...:)

    Oh yes! Another great CD!
Some contend that rock 'n roll is bad for the body & bad for the soul
Bad for the heart, bad for the mind, bad for the deaf & bad for the blind.
It makes some men crazy and they talk like fools.
Makes some men crazy and they start to drool.
