Default First electric guitar.... Tele modern player

I'm a new member to the forum, and to the electric guitar world. I have played acoustic for several years, but have been bitten by the electric blues bug. I recently bought a new modern player tele and a pignose amp to play on around the house. Hope to get a blues jr. Amp in the future. Since buying the tele I have been disappointed to hear the negative comments regarding the modern player. Since I'm new to all this I thought I'd ask....is this a poor choice?

Welcome to FenderTalk, Ajtele! Like you, I started off on acoustic guitar for several years before I just had to go for the electric side of life. The Blues Jr. is a great amp to pair with a Tele, and I still have one of the original Pignose amps around here that I got decades ago. There is nothing wrong with Modern Player, if you like playing it then it is a great guitar! Other people's opinions are just that, opinions. Did you get the model with the P90 pickups?

I've just checked out the spec of the new modern player HSS teles and there's nothing there I wouldn't like. Looks like a great deal to me and if they play as good as they look, that's all that matters. Enjoy.

Thanks Cap! As a father of a college student, I could not afford to spend a whole bunch on a guitar. This one felt good in the hands, looked nice and sounded good to me.

Coincidence - just today I walked into a local guitar shop (something I do very rarely) and saw one of those Teles on the wall. It was beautiful, IMO (the humbucker had a chrome cover on it which looked very classy), and I was astounded to see that it was under $500. Didn't have time to take it down and plug it in. Compared to your namesake here, AJ, you are the voice of sensibility when it comes to buying a Telecaster. Well, he is distant and certainly not poor, but I don't think he's any relation!
