How about taming it down with a little compression until you get a handle on it?

Good thinking, Cap'n. I'm getting a slightly better handle on it now, though. I recorded a couple of short licks into Cubase and ran them through a few IRs, and wanted you guys to listen, but I don't know how to post the mp3 files. The rotten playing notwithstanding, you'll get a good idea for some of those IRs - very interesting.

Thanks a million, Mike - I think it may have worked! So here's the deal; I tracked a couple of licks with no backing track or anything. One of them was through the Koch Dummybox 1X12 emulated output, and the other was a raw unemulated signal through the Koch. I then ran the unemulated track through several IRs. Pardon the unpolished playing, but I have not yet mastered the art of playing through the OD channel of this DR. Still, you get a fair idea of the tone and the IRs. I hope it works!

Very nice tones - hard to decide what I like best, but I really like the Koch dummybox tone.

I can't hear much of a difference between them, except the Rex and the Swamp Thang are a tad darker.

    Fair enough - ok, I'll admit I did this for a reason...busted!

I'm agonizing over whether to get rid of the Koch and get that new Suhr reactive load. That means I'll have to use the IRs, because the Suhr has no speaker sim, plus all told, it will be about a couple of hundred bucks more.

What you guys seem to be suggesting indirectly is to keep the Koch....no?

Not having heard the Suhr, I really like what I did hear. (Didn't want to say "I really like the K***")

My wife says we already have enough Kochs in the house.

It really depends on what other tracks are gonna sit around it. The darker ones might mud up a bit too much with other midrange instruments. They were all surprisingly similar, but I think I preferred the C-Rex over the others.
