    Guys,

I went by Chuck's this afternoon and ordered the beast. After watching Pete Thorn's video and reading his posts (he's had it for a while as a prototype) where he claims he likes it better than his actual cabs, I figured I had to do it. It will be here in three weeks, and set me back by $ 369 - for that I guess I can take a chance. I'll keep y'all posted!

This is the little unit that I've been using lately, and it's pretty nice.

I researched the JDX at one point, Stan, but if I remember correctly, it does not actually provide a load to the amp. From the FAQ:

Can I use the JDX with my tube amplifier without a speaker cabinet or load box connected?
NO. You must use some sort of load to absorb the energy coming from the amplifier head. Without a load of some sort, the JDX and output stage of your amplifier would overheat and become damaged.

I bet it sounds great, though. What do you do for a power soak?

Yes, you definitely DO have to connect your amp to a speaker (or load box). The JDX does go between your amp and your speaker. It does pick up a very good signal from your amp, and the real beauty of it is how repeatable its results are. For better or worse, it takes out all the factors like room and mic placement. So for your purposes, it probably isn't the answer. It's best attribute (IMHO), is that you can set it up anywhere and your recorded signal will be pretty much the same. Another great feature is you can use it in a room with drums, and/or other instruments without cross micing signals.

If you wanted a quiet result, using the JDX, you would have to have and isolation box, or a load box of some sort to do that.

Thats exactly what both the Koch Dummybox and the Suhr Reactive Load are - load boxes. The difference is, the Koch is a plain resistive load, taking up to 60W, and the Suhr is purported to be a true reactive load, taking up to 100W (they claim the impedance curve is almost identical to that of 4 Greenbacks). However, the Koch provides a couple of speaker emulated outputs, as well as a non-emulated output, whereas the Suhr only provides a non-emulated output.

The other attributes, such as repeatability, using it with other instruments and so on, are true even for the Koch and the Suhr. Pete Thorn's clip (below) is definitely worth watching:

Very nice tool! I can see that as a nice proposition.
