    Default What P bass is this?

    Hi guy.
    I'm the owner of this P-bass. I'd buy it used twenty years ago.

    Could you tell me more information about it?

    If it is American-built, the serial number suggests 1971 or 1972. It has been modified quite a bit. A second pickup has been added and the original pickup has been replaced with what looks like maybe a G&L pickup, although I wonder if at least one of the pickups is a DiMarzio, since a DiMarzio sticker has been added to the headstock. The wiring is considerably more complex than on the original, with a couple of extra knobs (I'm guessing separate volume and tone knobs for each pickup, like a Les Paul or SG), and someone has fashioned a new pickguard for it.

    The down side is that with that many alterations, some of its resale value has been diminished. That doesn't matter in the least if you love it and just want to enjoy playing it. I certainly have been guilty of modifying nearly every guitar or bass I've owned through the years. But people who like to buy what are now "old" instruments value them more if the are factory stock.
