Actually, Graeme, you can skip the blade question; I have browsed a couple of forums, including Badger and Blade, and have chosen a few to start with. Congratulations - you've gien another member GAS, and it's not even guitar-related!

Nice one Mike...and my pleasure Sir!

Actually, I'm a recent member over at Badger & Blade too - only made a couple of posts though.

Being a UK produced razor, I've been using the DE89 for a while but I recently acquired an Ikon OSS and think it's going to be my weapon of choice from now on.

I have sensitive skin (for now), so like only the mildest of razors. The DE89 is considered a mild shave but it's as aggresive as I'd like to go to be honest. The Ikon is an equally fantastic shave but a little easier on my face.

Best thing for blades is to buy a multi-pack of different ones to see what you like best (looks like you've figured that out too). I always change the blade after the 4th shave and tend to prefer Feather blades for their ultra-thin crispness.

Prep is everything for me. I always shave after a shower or a soak in tub. Follow that by the application of very hot water and then a pre-shave oil (Bluebeard's Revenge.....goes by the name of Dreadnought in the US I believe). Good quality cream on top of that (I love the Spanish brand: Agua De Colonia Barberia) - shave - cold rinse - rub over with alum bar - rinse again - then apply two coats of moisturiser (Nivea currently because it has no scent, so doesn't mask the smell of the Colonia Barberia).

A Geo Custom Lather bowl and a Simpson Super Badger brush complete the Captain's 'gig rig'.

Like I said, you need to take time and get into the zone. Very satisfying when it all comes together though.

However, the Wife's not too happy that I've taken over half of the bathroom closet with all my gear!

I remember a SNL skit where they had a razor coming out with 100 blades on it or something like that. One more blade is always better.....is the theory.
I'm not sayin' that, I'm just sayin'......

It seems the shaving equivalent of GAS is RAD (Razor Acquisition Disorder).

Electric Razor here. Cheap and no shagging around in the shower cutting myself with blades, multi or otherwise

I love the feel of a clean wet shave, but I'm a little bleeder and it's embarrassing going out in public
with little bits of toilet paper all over my face

    Aw, Keb...
I've been known to stop bleeding by simply farting on the laceration. I'd be happy to see you through the learning curve. Always wanted to visit NZ anyway.
