Hello & Thanks to all on the Cyber Twin Forum...
Hi everyone! I'm a new member of the forum, but a long time working musician and Fender lover. I've owned many Fender guitars and amps over the years. I've gigged with Bassman, Twins, and Supers, but all that changed when I bought my Cyber Twin in 2001. The versatility of the CT enabled me to park my pedal board and slowly liquidate my amp inventory, and was a principal part in expanding the types of sideman oppourtunities available to me. I've played hundreds of gigs with it, and it has never dissapointed.
However, the sealed chassis has always intimtdated me, and as a result never did regular tube replacement on the CT that was is part of my amp maintainance(I've changed teens of tubes over time, even on the fly at shows a 'couple of times). So sure enough, on the eve of an important show for my current band(The Ex-Bachelors Naples FL), I heard the dreaded sound - tube failure microphonics!
I checked my tube inventory - 1 GT 12AX7, 1 Phillips 12AT7 - yikes! Fortunately for me, I found fenderTalk.com, and the CT thread. I read the informed and sharing comments, took a deep breath, dropped the chassis and stuffed in the tubes I had. Buttoning up the chassis was a real pain(I'll never attempt that by myself again), and when I fired it up, it sounded..well..different but good. More open. After some tweaking, I was able to get her to where I felt comfortable on the bandstand.
Thanks to JakeJ, Shadowolf, Fedora, among others for your detailed comments and sharing. Hope I can return the favor sometime...
