    DD:

Nothing spectacularly new to report. Tracy's hanging around the house getting incrementally better. Had a little scare last week when the drain tube from her pancreas stopped draining, but it cleared up when we went & ended up spending the day at the hospital - not sure why, but it all of a sudden started working again. So now it's a waiting game until it stops draining on its own.

On the band front, it looks like the keyboards will work out for us. We're working her in judiciously - looks like on about 1/3 of the set. Sounds pretty sweet on the bluesy stuff.

    DD:

OK, now that the ol' lady's back to working, at least part-time (and a very yummy-lookin' 20 lbs. lighter I might add), I guess maybe it's my turn. A few weeks back I started getting a tingling & numbness in my left hand pinky & ring fingers. This makes fretting certain chords feel like I'm putting the squeeze on a small cactus. Unpleasant to say the least. It doesn't feel like it's getting worse; it just kind of came on & stayed pretty much steady. My GP's got me scheduled for a "nerve conduction test" (something like that anyway) tomorrow. Apparently they stick needles in my arm & run an electric current through to see how well the nerve is working. What's freaking me out is that the last time I experienced something like this it resulted in a couple of cervical fusions, which is where they replace a blown-out spinal disc with a bone graft.

Oh well, I guess I could brush up on my slide technique...
    Crap.

On the bright side, we're both down to 2 cigarettes a day! Wonderful stuff, that Chantix.

Teleblooz, I'm glad to hear about your wife doing a lot better, but sad to hear about your troubles. I was experiencing something like that in my right hand for a couple of months, but thank God it's gone away now. Mine had reached the point where I was dropping picks more often, but didn't get worse than that. I'm hoping that yours is easily remedied! 8)

What makes me uncharacteristically optimistic is that the nerve that services that part of the hand runs through a channel that's already had a fusion done.
As far as I know anyway.

Yeah, you might just need some anti-inflammatories to get that signal back again. 8)

Well, they took the pics & ran the tests (I'm sure that nerve conduction test is mentioned somewhere in the Geneva Conventions as a form of torture), and the verdict is in. I do have something messing with my ulnar nerve at the elbow that's causing the numbness & tingling.

The doc says that the "final solution" is surgically re-routing the nerve over to the other side of the elbow, but this is only if nothing else helps. In the meantime, I need to be aware of how I rest the elbow that may be putting pressure on the channel the nerve runs through. Actually I think I've spotted where it's happening - I like to drive with my elbow out the side window. When I do that, it puts pressure on exactly the spot the doc was talking about. He says I should avoid resting the elbow in this or similar fashion for a while and see if it gets better, but warned that all things neural heal very slowly.

Oh well - it'll be winter soon and hanging my arm out an open truck window won't be much of a temptation.
