Dang, Cap'n Fretboard! The term "sucks" comes to mind. On the other hand, I found out I have to come in Sunday and work all day. I guess that's all right, 'cause I had to go home early a few days this week due to lack o' work.

The dog watch is now at an end and I've taken to the grog, so I bid you all fair weather this weekend.

Fb7? Wouldn't it be a bit easier to play an E7?

hey cap'n, I've only been playing a couple years and am self taught so your problems are fresh in my mind. I can read music because I used ot play the trumpet but when it comes to reading music for the guitar I struggle. Thats why I have gotten to use tabs a lot. As far as knowing which fingers to put where, I just do whatever feels comfortable. Depending on the complexity of the song it may take a while, but so do a lot of things in the guitar realm. Another thing I do with tabs is I sometimes dont follow them exactly i.e. if it says to play the 12th fret on the low e string, i will play the 7th fret of the a string if it happens to feel better, closer, easier, what have you.

You will be surprised in a few months or whatever how far your fingers stretch. When I first started I looked at some chords and didnt think they were possible, but now they are fairly simple. Same with barre chords, but I stuck with them and didnt back down. They open up the whole fretboard and enable you to have much more flexibility.
