Here's Brownie! He's a Faded Brown Gibson SG Special, and this guy has been getting a whale of a lot of playing time lately, much to my surprise. His neck is called "rounded" by Gibson and it feels a lot like their '59 fat neck. I have always preferred a thinner neck, but this guitar just keeps getting the job done. He's got great tone, plays wonderfully, and stays in tune, what more do you want? I am continually amazed that I keep grabbing this guy, because I have never been an SG fan. But Brownie is becoming a main player in my stable. 8)

Nice looking guitar you have there SA! And natural wood colored too,
as I know we both have a fondness for. I don' think I've ever played an
SG - compared to your LP, whats your thoughts?

Well, there's the obvious... it's pounds lighter hangin' off your shoulder, and just having the strap button on the back of the guitar presents the fretboard to your fingers a little differently. Being lighter allows you to play much longer without shoulder or back fatigue.

Then there's the tone! It has a bit more open tone than a Paul. An SG is more of a brat, and it kinda snarls, where a Paul would purr. But both of them can easily get into the old EC Woman Tone very easily.

The part that still amazes me is that I'm liking the larger neck size. I really don't get it, because I've never actually enjoyed a neck this big before! But it plays so nice, and many "experts" say that a fatter neck can generate better tone, which does make good sense.

Oh well, sometimes you just find a guitar that doesn't have a huge price, but can still be a huge performer. I've seen these things selling for the mid 500s on Ebay lately...

Any guitar that causes me to want to play guitar more is just fine in my book! Brownie is a Keeper!

    Play on, Stan

Whoa! If anyone is interested, here's a Faded Brown SG with a Gibson hardshell case on Ebay with a Buy-It-Now of $485. It won't last long, I'm sure, and I might even spring on it myself!

    No.

I guess I should have been. That would have been a heck of a buy at $485! At $435, it's felonius!

The case alone will usually cost you between 100 to 150.
